Minnesota Game Warden

In March of 1941 uniforms were issued to all State Game Wardens.

This hat badge was issued in March of 1941, to game wardens, deputy game wardens, some state trappers, and some civilian employees. The hat badge issued to game wardens generally had a different badge number from their breast badge.

In 1931 the Minnesota Game & Fish Department was changed to the Minnesota Department of Conservation. Around that time 18 District Chief Wardens were promoted.

This style of badge was issued to state trappers, many civilian game & fish employees, and the few remaining deputy wardens in the 1940's to 1950's.

Issued to Game Wardens in late 1920's into the 1930's.

First style of patch issued in 1941 and worn on the left sleeve of the blouse. The bird in the center of the patch is believed to be a pheasant.

Issued to Game Wardens in 1923 to the mid 1930's.

Issued to paid (Deputy) and unpaid (Special Deputy) Game Wardens (1900's-1920's).

Issued to Game Wardens (1891-1923).

Issued to unpaid special deputy game wardens starting around 1915 to as late as the early 1930's. Also issued to state trappers and to many civilian department employees.

In March of 1887, the position of State Game Warden was established by the Minnesota Legislature. Fred Zwickey was appointed. Zwickey left for another job in 1889 and the Legislature abolished the position. In April of 1891, the Legislature established a Board of five Game & Fish Commissioners. The Commissioners were authorized to enforce the game and fish laws as well as having the power to appoint Game Wardens and Deputy Game Wardens. The Game Wardens pictured (circa 1898).
